sources of energy

chapter 32 2

Non renewable sources of energy will eventually run out
examples of fossil fuels are coal, oil gas and turf
renewable energy sources will not run out
We get solar energy from sunlight
solar panels convert solar energy into heat energy
an advantage of solar energy is that it does not cause pollution
a disadvantage of solar energy is the solar panels are not very efficient at converting energy
hydroelectricity is getting electricity from running water
water stored in a dam has potential energy
when water is flowing it has kinetic energy
wind turbines change kinetic energy to electrical energy
nuclear fission uses uranium
nuclear fusion uses water
heat trapped beneath the surface of the earth contains geothermal energy
biomass energy is energy obtained from plants such as sugar cane
oil from sugar cane is converted into alcohol and then into petrol
fossil fuels are formed from the dead remains of plants and animals which lived many years ago
