According to John Locke, what was the fundamental element that made government legitimate? The government was legitimate just as long as people continued to consent it
Describe the practices established by colonial governments that became a basic part of our system of government? A written constitution guarantees basic liberties and limits the power or the government. Separation of powers is between the legislature and government.
Why did the British government tighten its control over the colonies in the 1760's? The British began taxing the citizens and controlled their trade.
What tasks did the Second Continental Congress accomplish? To organize an army and navy to issue money.
Why was the Declaration of Independence a revolutionary document? To put forth the founding principles of the new nation.
What achievements were made under the Articles of Confederation? - Fair policy for the development of the lands west of Applachians. - Peace treaty with Great Britain
State the position of small states versus large states in the debate on the issue of representation in Congress. The smaller states would be protected in the Senate, where each state had equal representation, based on population.
What issue did the Convention delegates refuse to settle in 1787? Slavery
