| coefficient | a number that is multiplied by a variable |
| constant | a value that does not change |
| evaluate | to find the numerical value of an expression |
| substitute | to replace a variable with a number or expression |
| integer | the set of whole numbers and their opposites |
| additive inverses | the opposite of a number |
| opposites | two numbers that are equal distance from zero on a number line |
| absolute value | a number's distance from zero on a number line |
| equation | a mathematical sentence that uses an equal sign |
| inverse operation | operations that undo each other |
| solution | the value or values that make an expression true |
| equivalent | having the same value |
| reciprocal | one of two numbers whose product is one |
| PEMDAS | a way to remember the order of operations |
| quotient | the answer to a division problem |
| product | the answer to a multiplication problem |
| sum | the answer to an addition problem |
| difference | the answer to a subtraction problem |
