Making use of metals
Term | Definition |

Making use of metals | properties dictate uses |
Alumnium | electricity cables, CDs & DVDs, cooking foil and food cartons, drinking cans (due to shiny surface, good conductor of heat & electricity), non-toxic, resistant to corrosion, light, malleable) |
Copper | electrical wiring, roofing, saucepan bases (due to malleability, conducts heat & electricity well, malleable, unreactive |
Lead | holding stained glass windows, car batteries (due to unreactivity, easy to bend at rtp, creates current when dissolved in dilute sulphuric acid as lead (ii) oxide) |
Zinc | sacrificial protection and galvanization, torch batteries (due to resistant to corrosion, gives current when connected to carbon electrode) |
Silver | jewellry, mirrors, electrical connections (due to good conductivity of electricity, shiny, resists corrosion) |
Titanium | tooth implants, exhaust pipes for planes, pipes and tanks (due to lightness, strength, resistant to corrosion, non-toxic, malleable and ductile) |
