Solving Equations

| distributive property | The property that states if you multiply a sum by a number, you will get the same result if you multiply each addend by that number and then add the products. |
| commutative property | The property that states two or more numbers can be added or multiplied in any order without changing the sum or product. |

| Algebraic Expression | An expression that contains at least one variable |
| Factor | Integers you can multiply together to get a product. |
| Combining | Putting together. |
| Like Terms | Terms whose variables and exponents are the same. |
| Strategize | To make a plan for achieving a goal. |
| Justify | To show or prove to be right or reasonable. |
| Equation | A mathematical sentence that shows two expressions are equal. |
| Order of Operations | A rule for evaluating expressions |
| Solution | A number that makes an equation true when it is substituted for the variable. |
| Inverse | The operation that reverse the effect of another operation. |
| Each | A key word for division that indicates a quantity to, for, or by every one of a group. |
| Total | A solution to an addition problem. |
| Evenly | A key word for division that indicates equal amounts. |
| Increase | A key word for addition that indicates to add a quantity to another. |
| Twice | A key word to multiply a quantity by two. |
| Less | A key word to subtract that indicates to decrease a quantity by another quantity. |
