TermDefinition
Algebraic Expressions consisting of one or more numbers and variables along with one or more arithmetic operations
Substitute To replace a variable for a specific value.
Term A number, a variable, or a product or quotient of numbers and variables.
Coefficient The numerical factor of a term.
Variable A letter or other symbol used to represent an unspecified number or value.
Constant A term that does not contain a variable.
Exponents A number that indicates how many times a number or expression is to be multiplied by itself.
Base The number that is going to be raised to a power.
Commutative Property Changing the order of the numbers does not change the answer.
Associative Property The order of numbers does not change but the grouping changes.
Identity Property the value that returns the input unchanged"
Inverse Property of Addition the value that brings you back to the identity element under addition"
Inverse Property of Multiplication the value that brings you back to the identity element under multiplication
Identity element of Addition 0
Identity element of Multiplication 1
Zero Property of Multiplication zero times any value is 0
Distributive Property multiplication distributes across addition
inequality is a statement that compares two expressions that may or may not be equivalent
Relation is a set of ordered pairs
Function a relation in which each element of the input is paired with exactly one element in the output according to a specified rule
Domain the set of input values for a function (x values)
Range the set of output values for a function (y values)
Linear Equation an equation for which the graph is a straight line
Function table a table used to organize the input numbers, output numbers, and function rule.
Independent Variable the input
Dependent Variable is the output
coordinate plane formed by a horizontal number line(x-axis) and a vertical number line (y-axis)
Origin the of point of intersection of the two number lines (0,0).
Quadrants four sections of the coordinate plane
Ordered pair a pair of numbers used to locate a point in the coordinate plane.
x-axis the horizontal number line on the coordinate plane
y-axis the vertical number line on the coordinate plane
