fungus | an organism that absorbs and uses nutrients of living or dead organism |
antibiotic resistance | a condidtion in which bacteria can no longer be killed by a particular antibiotic |
inflammation | a reaction to injury or infection that is characterized by pain, redness, and swelling |
lymphatic system | a network of vessels that carry a clear fluid called lymph through the body |
white blood cell | a blood cell whose primary job is to defent the body against disease |
vaccine | a substance usually prepared from killed or weakened pathogens or from genetic material and that is introduced into a body to produce immunity |
symptom | a change that a person notices in his or her body or mind and that is caused by a disease or disorder |
meningitis | an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord |
salmonellosis | a bacterial infection of the digestive system, usually spread by eating contaminated food |
hepatitis | an inflammation of the liver |
amebic dysentery | an inflammation of the intestine caused by ameba |
lifestyle disease | a disease that is caused partly by unhealthy behaviors and partly by other factors |
cardiovascular disease | a disease or disorder that results from progressive damage to the heart and blood vessels |
stroke | a sudden attack of weakness or paralysis that occurs when blood flow to an area of the brain is interrupted |
blood pressure | the force that blood exerts against the inside walls of a blood vessel |
heart attack | the damage and loss of function of an area of the heart muscle |
atherosclerosis | a disease characterized by the buildup of fatty materials on the inside walls of the arteries |
