| Element | A substance that that cannot be broken down into other substances by physical or chemical means |
| Chemical Bond | Two atoms attracted to eachother |
| Molecule | A group of more than 1 atoms held together by chemical bonds |
| Compound | A Substance made of more than 1 elements that are chemically combined in a set ratio |
| Chemical Formula | Shows the elements in the compound and the ratio of atoms |
| Mixture | Made of more than 1 susbtances that are together in the same place but are not chemically bonded |
| Matter | anything that takes up space and has mass |
| Chemistry | the study of how matter changes and matter |
| Susbtance | a single kind of matter that is pure |
| Physical Property | A characteristic of a substance that can be observed without changing it. |
| Chemical Property | A characteristic of a substance that describes its ability to change. |
| Weight | A measure of the force of gravity |
| Mass | The amount of matter in an object |
| International System of Units | Measurements for the properties of Matter |
| Volume | The amount of space that matter ocupies |
| Density | A measurement of mass of a given volume |
| Physical Change | Alters the appearance of matter but does not turn any substance in the matter into something else |
| Chemical Change | A change in mater that produces more substances |
| Law of Conservation of Mass | Matter is not created nor destroyed in any chemical or physical change |
| Temperature | the measurement of heat or cold |
| Thermal Energy | total energy of the motion of all of the particles in an object |
| Endothermic Change | A change were energy is absorbed |
| Exothermic Change | The act of releasing energy |
| Chemical Energy | The type of energy that is stored in chemical bonds between atoms |
