|---|---|
| Analytical Chemistry | The area of chemistry that focuses on the composition of matter |
| Biochemistry | The area of chemistry that focuses on processes that take place in organisms |
| Chemistry | The study of the composition of matter and the changes that matter undergoes |
| Inorganic Chemistry | The study of substance that, in general do not contain carbon |
| Matter | Anything that has mass and occupies space |
| Organic Chemistry | The study of compounds containing carbon |
| Physical Chemistry | The area of chemistry that deals with the mechanism, the rate and the energy transfer that occur when matter undergoes a change |
| Absolute Zero | The zero point on the Kelvin temperature scale equivalent to -273.15c |
| Accuracy | The closeness of a measurement to the value of what is being measured |
| Density | The ratio of mass of an object to its volume |
| Gram | A metric mass unit equal to the mass of 1cm3 of water at 4 degree celsius |
| International System of units (SI) | The revised version of the metric system, adopted by international agreement in 1960 |
| Kilogram | The mass of 1 liter of water at 4 degree celsius it is the basic unit of mass in SI |
| Liter | The volume of a cube measuring 10 centimeter on edge (1000cm3) its common unprefixed unit of volume in the metric system |
| Percent Error | The percent that a measured value differs from the accepted value |
| Precision | Describes the closeness, or reproducibility of a set of measurements |
| Significant Fiqures | All the digits that can be known precisely in a measurements plus a last estimated digit |
| Temperature | A measure of the average kinetic energy of particles in matter; temperature determines the directions of heat transfer |
| Weight | A forces that measures the pull of gravity on a given mass |
