Algebraic Expressions A collection of numbers, variables, and operators (with NO equals sign), packaged into a mathematical phrase.
Substitute To replace a variable for a specific value.
Term Each group of variables and numbers, separated by operators
Coefficient The numerical factor of a term.
Variable an unknown part of an equation, represented by a letter
Constant A term that does not contain a variable.
Algebraic Expressions 2a+5 is called________
Variable The a in 2a is called______
coefficient The 2 in 2a is called________
Term 2a or x/6 or 7 or x These are all called ________
Constant The 5 in 2a+5 is called_______
Equation two things are equal.
Evaluate To calculate the value of.
Operation/ operator can be either addition, subtraction, division, or multiplication.
positive number A number that is greater than 0
negative number A number that is less than 0
numerical expression a collection of numbers and mathematical operators
isolate get the variable alone by performing inverse operations on both sides of the equation until it stands by itself.
like terms Terms with the same variable raised to the same power
simplify the most compact or efficient manner, without changing the value of the expression.
solution is any value of the variable that makes the equation true.
inverse operations The operation that reverses the effect of another operation.
