What is the term for the first step of the plot diagram, which occurs at the beginning of a short story to introduce the setting, characters, and the main conflict (problem)? exposition
What is the term that defines the action that helps develop the conflict(s), by building interest or suspense? rising action
What is the term which defines the turning point of the story, when the main character comes face to face with a conflict and changes in some way? climax
What is the term that describes the part of the story, in which all the loose ends of the plot are tied up, and the conflict(s) and climax are taken care of? falling action
What is the term which describes the part of the story that details a reasonable ending? resolution
Which part/s of the plot structure occur at the beginning of the story? exposition and rising action

falling action All loose ends of the plot are tied up. The conflict(s) and climax are taken care of
climax This is the turning point of the story. Usually the main character comes face to face with a conflict. The main character will change in some way.
rising action This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). A building of interest or suspense occurs.
exposition This usually occurs at the beginning of a short story. Here the characters are introduced. We also learn about the setting of the story. Most importantly, we are introduced to the main conflict (main problem).
plot The organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story. Every plot is made up of a series of incidents that are related to one another.
