| Annotation | a note of explanation or comment added to a text or diagram. |
| Figurative Language | is language that uses words or expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation. When a writer uses literal language, he or she is simply stating the facts as they are. |
| Extraneous | irrelevant or unrelated to the subject being dealt with |
| inference | a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning |
| Imagery | visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work. |
| Detail | an individual feature, fact, or item |
| Diction | the choice and use of words and phrases in speech or writing. |
| Text | a book or other written or printed work, regarded in terms of its content rather than its physical form. |
| Evidence | the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid. |
