Imminent The ice hanging from the roof was imminent, threatening destruction to any person that passed under it.
Knoll The rounded knoll was covered in glass and, as she sat on this small hill, it seemed as though the sun was aiming directly at her.
Minaret The mosque, like most, had a small tower called a minaret attached to it.
Palatable The dinner she made was very palatable, as she had always been a good cook.
Sensuous Her perfume, of some undefined yet pretty scent, was very sensuous and almost seemed to add to her beauty.
Thwart The principle had heard of the fight right before it was supposed to happen and, like he should have, he thwarted it.
Wheedle “Don’t try to wheedle me, miss,” said the cop, “flattery will get you nowhere.”
Brusque Because she had not been social in so long, her conversations were brusque and rude in the sense that they were so blunt.
Clandestine The wife was shocked to find out about her husbands affair, which was apparently very clandestine.
Dearth The dearth of potatoes during the potato famine was not made up for by any surplus in corn.
Fauna Dinsouars were around for many years before humans, but the fauna seemed to die out unexplainably.
Implacable The kid, who apparently had minor ADHD, was very implacable, and for that reason went through baby-sitters like they were nothing.
Jocund His jocund ways made him hard to be mean to; he was just so lighthearted to yell at.
Mundane There was something so mundane about doing the same thing everyday, that after a while she got sick of it and looked for something more atypical.
Pallid The young girl was pallid, as though in a permanent shock, but instead, they later realized, she was just naturally pale.
Rendezvous “When should we have our rendezvous”, she said pulling out her date book and pen.
Skulk After being chased out of the town by angry mobs with torches, he had to skulk in the woods for a while.
Tortuous The tortuous paper contained many complex words and difficult wording, and his inability to be straight forward got him a C.
Wily Growing up, he was a very wily, and, in fact, he was so cunning that we all thought he’d grow up to be a con artist.
Ascetic His life was very ascetic, as the laws of Amish country were very strict and kept him very well disciplined.
