Hair Design

QuestionAnswer
Wet design Refers to the area of hair designing in which the hair is manipulated into the desired shapes and movements while wet and then allowed to dry
Fingerwaving Created by molding two oblongs, using your fingers and combs, and is joined and connected by a ridge
Hollow The recess area of a fingerwave
Overdirection Pinching or pushing the ridge will create______ of the wave and is not recommended
Ridge The part of the fingerwave that joins 2 oblongs together
Pincurls Primarily to create temporary effects or specialized closeness and allow a wide range of movement, not recommended for tightly curled hair
Pincurl base Area of strand at the scalp between partings within a shape
Stem Also known as the arc,the beginning portion of the strand and determines the amount of movement
The size of the circle Determines the width and strength of a wave
Straight volume pincurls Large stand up pincurls, achieving a similar effect to hair wound around a roller but resulting in weaker and less volume also referred to as stand up, cascade and barrel curl
Flat pincurls Base, stem and circle are flat, used for closeness and also known as carved or sculpture curls
Volume pincurls Base and stem are lifted, circle turns under, creates fullness and height
Indentation pincurls Base is flat, Stem or arc and circle are lifted, create hollow space and flare
Skip wave composed of two alternating oblongs connected by a ridge. One oblong is molded and one is set
Ridge curl One oblong followed by a row of pincurls
Rectangle Use rollers of same length
Triangle shape Used within straight shapes and along the hairline, also helps to avoid splits
Half-circle Curvature shape Mostly used in the fringe and side area, curvature volume that directs equal amounts of hair off the face and on the face, with equal radial lines. Use one diameter and one length back away from the point of origin
Expanded circle Currvature shape in fringe and side areas, extends from the inner circle, rollers are positioned within their base
Half Oval Curvature shape usually in the fringe or sides. Unequal length rollers positioned from a single point of origin, set with one diameter and one length of the roller away
*Expanded oval Top, front and sides of head curvature movement that travels toward the back
Oblongs Anywhere on the head and in any direction. A strong wave pattern with a 1st and 2nd turn. When using 2 together it creates a full wave
The 3 parts of a curl Base, stem (arc) and circle
Closed circle Produces a much smaller and stronger wave for a fluffy effect
Open circle Produces a wider wave pattern with uniform circles
Base shapes of pincurls Triangle, rectangle, square and crescent
On base pincurl Produce lift or strong curl effect
Half off base pin curl Equal direction and volume is required
Off base pincurl Design requires closeness and mobility
Straight volume pincurls Large stand up pincurls that achieve affect like that rolled around a roller
Straight volume pincurls Referred to as stand up, cascade and barrell pincurls
3 types of pincurls Flat, volume and Indentation
Flat pincurls Pincurls used for closeness
Volume Pincurls Used to create fullness and height
Skipwaves 2 alternating oblongs in which the second oblong is set with pincurls
Ridge curl One oblong with a row of pincurls
Cone shaped rollers Used within curvature shapes to create a more stronger curvature movement that would not be achieved with out this roller
