Spelling rules from spellodrome/Essential Spelling
| 'i' before 'e' except after: | 'c' with the sound of 'eeeee' eg. belief, receive |
| when adding 'y' to a word ending in 'e' you: | drop the 'e' before adding the 'y' eg. noise + y= noisy |
| when a word ends in an 'e', the 'e' is usually kept when: | a suffix beginning with consonant is added eg. noise + less= noiseless |
| when a word ends in an 'e', the 'e' is usually dropped when: | a suffix beginning with vowel is added eg. love + able = lovable |
| the prefixes 'dis-' and 'mis-' never: | drop their 's' even when added to a word beginning with 's' eg. 'dis' + 'ability' = disability , dis + 'satisfied' = dissatisfied |
