transition Helps move smoothly from one idea to another

topic sentence presents main idea in first sentence of the paragraph
concluding statement Pulls together or summarizes in last sentence of paragraph
restate Write again in different or new words; adds strength
thesis main topic is stated with your opinion about the topic
