| Bureau of Labor Statistics | A federal agency that measures labor market activity and working conditions. |
| Career | The combination of all the occupations and jobs held throughout your work life. |
| Goods-Producing Industry | Companies and businesses such as manufacturing, construction, and mining which produce some type of product. |
| Industry | In the NAICS system, all places of employment, regardless of the types of product or service provided. |
| Interest | Something that you like to do. A feeling of excitement and involvement. |
| Job | A paid position at a specific place or setting. |
| Occupation | The name given to a group of similar tasks that a person performs for pay. |
| Occupational Description | Explains what the work in an occupation is like including the tasks involved, the working conditions, and the earnings. |
| Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) | A reference sources produced by the federal government that provides occupational information and data. |
| Self-Direction | Setting goals, taking steps to get there. |
| Self-Information | Knowledge about one's self, particularly in relation to career decision making. |
| Service-Providing Industry | Companies and businesses that provide or provide some type of personal or business service. |
| Work | An activity directed toward a purpose or goal that produces something of value to oneself and/or to society. |
| Work Value | Attitudes and beliefs about the importance of various work activities. |
| World of Work | The network of occupations and workplaces (industries) in the American economic system. |
