QuestionAnswer
setting the time and place of the story.

simile a comparison using "like" or "as."
sound devices stylistic techniques that convey meaning through sound.
structure the organization (divisions) of a literary selection.
style the way a writer uses language
suspense the quality that makes the reader tense about the outcome of events.
symbol any object, person, or place that stands for something.
synecdoche when a part of something is used to signify the whole.
syntax the arrangement of words and the order of grammatical elements in a sentence.
theme the central message.
tone the writer’s attitude toward a subject, character, or audience.
understatement to deliberately represent something as being much less than it really is.
context clue when you figure out a word’s meaning by the way it is used in a sentence.
rhetorical question a question that doesn’t require an answer.
