| plot | the main events of a play |
| setting | the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place. |
| indirect characterization | the process by which the personality of a fictitious character is revealed through the character's speech, actions, appearance, |
| direct characterization | is when the author TELLS the audience what the personality of the character is. |
| theme | the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic. |
| tone | a musical or vocal sound with reference to its pitch, quality, and strength. |
| mood | a temporary state of mind or feeling. |
| 1st person point of view | the grammatical person used by a speaker in statements referring to himself or herself or to a group including himself or herself |
| 3rd person point of view limited | When the speaker knows something about everybody. |
| 3rd person point of view omniscient | When the speaker knows only one persons name. |
| dialogue | conversation between two or more people as a feature of a book, play, or movie. |
| flashback | a scene in a movie, novel, etc., set in a time earlier than the main story. |
| foreshadowing | be a warning or indication of (a future event). |
| dramatic irony | that occurs when the meaning of the situation is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play |
| verbal irony | in which a person says or writes one thing and means another, or uses words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of the literal meaning. |
| situational irony | is most broadly defined as a situation where the outcome is incongruous with what was expected |
| climax | the most intense, exciting, or important point of something; a culmination or apex. |
| Resolution | a firm decision to do or not to do something. |
| denouement | the final part of a play, movie, or narrative in which the strands of the plot are drawn together and matters are explained or resolved. |
| internal conflict | is the struggle occurring within a character's mind. |
| external conflict | Between parents and children. |
