TermDefinition
Plot the plan, the main story of a literary or dramatic work
Mood an emotional quality, character, or feeling at a particular time
Setting the surroundings or environment of anything
Tone the attitude towards the subject or towards the audience
Dialogue a conversation between two or more persons
Flashback a transition to an earlier time that interrupts the normal order of events
Foreshadowing an advanced sign or warning of whats to come in the future
Indirect Characterization personality of a character is revealed through the characters speech, actions, and appearance
Direct Characterization personality of a character is revealed by the use of descriptive adjectives, phrases, etc
Dramatic Irony when the meaning of a situation is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play
Verbal Irony when a person says or writes one thing but mean another
Situational Irony actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so the outcome is contrary to what was expected
Theme the subject of a piece of writing, a person's thought, etc
Climax the most intense or important point of something
1st person point of view when you tell a story using I, we, etc
3rd person point of view telling a story using he, she, they, etc
3rd person omniscient telling a story in which the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of all the characters in the story
Resolution an answer or solution to a conflict
Internal Conflict when the character struggles within theirselves
External Conflict it occurs between two or more characters, or a character and it's environment
