| Term | Definition |

| Allusion | A reference to a well-known place, work of art, famous person, historical event, or famous statement |
| Analogy | A comparison between two things or ideas |
| Anaphora | A series of sentences or phrases begun with the same word or group of words to build tension or emphasize a point |
| Euphemism | Using mild words, instead of possibly offensive words, to describe something |
| Hyperbole | Exaggeration to create an effect |
| Repetition | Repeating words or phrases to emphasize a point or to add dramatic effect |
| Rhetorical question | Question asked to make a point, not to receive an answer |
