| onomatopoeia | is words using sounds and expressing them |
| personification | makes comparison with something that isn't human but is described with human qualities |
| repetition | the repeating of a word or phrase to add a rhyming pattern |
| rhyme | the repeating of two or more words that sound alike |
| rhyme scheme | rhyming in an organized pattern |
| rhythm | the way the poem flows from one idea to the next |
| similie | comparing one thing using like or as |
| stanza | a group of lines of poetry usually similar in length and pattern separated by one line |
| verse | a single line of poetry |
| couplet | two verses of poetry that are the same length and rhyme |
| refrain | a regularly repeated verse or group of verses after each stanza in a poem |
| narrative poetry | poems that tell story with character,plot,and setting |
| diamonte | a poem that goes from a top subject to a different subject on the bottom |
