Electronic stuff

TermDefinition
amperes The unit of electric current in the meter-kilogram-second system of units. Referred to as amp and symbolized as A.
circuit diagrams Diagrams using symbols to show the parts of an electric circuit.
current electricity The controlled flow of electrons through a conductor. This is a steady flow in one fixed direction.
electric circuit A complete, unbroken path through which electric charges can flow.
electric current Movement of electrons from one place to another.
electric load Any device that transforms electrical energy into other forms of energy, such as a light bulb, buzzer, heater, and motor.
electric potential energy The stored energy a charge has based on it's location in an electric field; work is done whenever an object moves with/against the field.
electrical resistance The opposition posed by a material or a device to the flow of current.
electrochemical cells Electrodes in electrolytes that convert chemical energy into electrical energy stored in charges; also called batteries.
electrodes A metal strip that conducts electricity.
electrolyte A substance that is dissolved in solution and some of its molecules split or dissociate into electrically charged atoms or ions.
energy Ability to work.
ohm According to this law the voltage in a circuit equals the product of the current and the resistance.
Ohm’s law States that the direct current flowing in an electric circuit is directly proportional to the voltage applied to the circuit.
potential difference The difference in electrical charge between two points in a circuit expressed in volts.
resistance A material's opposition to the flow of electric current.
resistor An electrical device that resists the flow of electrical current.
volt A unit to measure potential difference.
voltage Another name for potential difference.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
