| application window | the main window of an application, comprising the various panels |
| workspace | the arrangement of the panels in an application window |
| editing | the default workspace in premiere pro |
| panel tabs | the tabs found at the tops of panels. you can move panels by dragging panel tabs |
| drop zones | the area that becomes highlighted as you drag a panel; provides a visual reference to where the panel can be placed. |

| project panel | the panel that organizes all the assets for a project in premiere pro, after effects, or encore |
| digital assets | video, audio, still images, and photoshop and /or illustrator |
| timeline panel | the panel where you place various assets and edit them |
| sequence | in premiere pro, the section of the timeline panel where most editing takes place. |
| reference files | a file created to track assets that are referenced in the premiere pro project panel |
| bins | used to organize assets in the project panel; work much the same way as folders in windows explorer of the mac os finder |
| storyboarding | a way to plan a video by placing clips or digital assets in the order you plan to have them play |
| clips | video, audio, still images, and photoshop and/or illustrator files. |
| icon view | in the premiere pro project panel, the view that shows thumbnails or smaller versions of the digital assets that have been imported |
| thumbnails | a reduced size picture of a digital assets |
| tracks | in audition, the parts of a session where video and audio clips are assembled, edited, and enhanced with effects and transitions |
| time ruler | a feature of the premiere pro timeline panel that marks a specific frame with a unique address and is recorded onto videotape during the recording process |
| current-time display | the area on the timeline panel in premiere pro that shows the timecode for the current frame. |
| timecodes | a feature of the premiere pro timeline panel that marks a specific frame with a unique address and is recorded onto video tape during the recording process |
| current-time indicator (cti) | a light blue triangle in the ruler with a vertical red line extending through the video and audio tracks |
| scrubbing | clicking and dragging the CTI to preview |
| work area bar | a visual representation of the area of a sequence that you want to preview or export; the selected portion is indicated by brackets just below the time ruler |
| horizontal zoom bar | the are that corresponds with the visible portion of the timeline panel and that allows you to quickly move to different parts of a sequence. |
| ripple delete | a command that removes a clip from a sequence without leaving any gaps if the clip being removed is located between two other clips |
| rendering | the process of compiling a composition into its final output from all of its layers and settings; a rendered project plays more smoothly and much closer to real time. |
| transition | the movement from one clip to the next in a sequence; can add additional interest to video and can be as simple as phasing out one image and phasing in another |
| cut line | in premier pro, the point where a clip has been split. |
| cut | it is marked by a vertical line between two clips and is also referred to as a cut. |
| edge selectors | arrows found on some transitions that change the orientation or direction of the transition. |
| start | the beginning edge of a transition; may be adjusted |
| end sliders | the ending edge of a transition; may be adjusted |
| show actual sources | an option in the effect controls panel that displays the starting and ending frames of clips to which a transition has been applied |
| border width | a setting in the effect controls panel that allows for the adjustment of the optional border on a transition |
| border color | a setting in the effect controls panel that allows the color of the transition border to be set |
| reverse | a setting in the effect controls panel that allows you to play a transition backward |
| anti-aliasing quality | a setting in the premiere pro effect controls panel that adjusts the smoothness of a transitions edges |
| custom | a setting in the premiere pro effect controls panel that makes changes specific to a transition |
| keyframe | a frame with settings that provide a snapshot of how you want a clip to look at a specified time. |
| fading | a basic effect used on images to fade in or out by applying the opacity effect |
| opacity | the level of transparency on a scale from 0% to 100%; if set to 0%, the clip is completely transparent; at 100%, the clip has no transparency |
| titler | in premiere pro, a mini-application in a free-floating window used to create titles |
| title panel | a part of the titler in premiere pro where you design and preview text and graphics; the central panel in the titler window |
| title properties panel | a part of the titler in premiere pro where you choose a font and change the font size, kerning, leading, or font characteristics such as bold or italics |
| title tools panel | a part of the titler in premiere pro where you can apply preset styles to titles and create and save your own titles |
| title actions panel | a part of the titler in premiere pro where you align center, or distribute objects and text vertically and horizontally |
| title styles panel | a part of titler in premiere pro where there tools are located to draw basic shapes, create text paths, and create vertical or horizontal text |
| still | a title that has fixed text |
| rolls | a title in which text moves vertically over the footage. |
| crawl | a title in which text moves horizontally over the footage |
| encode | a procedure done during the export process so that other people will be able to view a movie |
| streaming video | video played much like a traditional live broadcast and affected by the bandwidth available |
| buffering | the delay before a video begins to play on the internet |
| progressive downloadable video | a technology used to make video viewable on the web in which movie player software determines how ling it will take to download an entire movie for viewing and begins playing the movie when enough of the movie has been downloaded so it will play back unin |
