Integers

TermDefinition
Integers Whole numbers that include both positive and negative numbers
What else are positive and negative numbers called? Signed and/or directed numbers
Whole numbers greater than zero... Positive integers. These numbers are to the right of the number line
Whole numbers less than zero... Negative integers. These numbers are to the left of the number line
Do the numbers have the same sign? (ADDITION) YES = Find the sum NO = Find the difference
Steps for subtraction: 1. The first number stays the same 2. Change the operation 3. Switch the next sign 4. Follow the rules for addition
Subtraction means: Add the opposite
Steps for multiplication or division: 1. Copy the problem exactly 2. Do the multiplication or division 3. Count the number of negative signs. An even number of negative signs, the answer is positive. An odd number of negative signs, the answer is negative.
