What was the role of the Office of War Mobilization? To centralize agencies dealing with war production
Why did the government put Japanese Americans in internment camps during WWII? Because of fears created by the bombing of Pearl Harbor
What was the goal of the D-Day invasion? To take France back for the allies.
Why was the Battle of the Bulge significant? It was Hitler’s last stand. It was also the largest battle fought in Western Europe during WWII.
What happened to Germany at the end of WWII? It was divided into 4 zones
What was the Nazi plan for the Jews? To get rid of all the Jews
What important precedent was made at the Nuremberg Trials? The Nuremberg Trials established the precedent that you could be held accountable for your actions during wartime.
What happened at the Battle of Midway? The allies sunk four Japanese carriers and 250 planes. It was a turning point for the war in the Pacific.
What was the purpose of the "Island Hopping" campaign? To get close enough to Japan where they could bomb it.
What was the Manhattan Project? The code name for the building of the atomic bomb.
What type of discrimination did African American soldiers face during WWII? They were allowed to fight in the war but they fought in segregated divisions
What jobs did women perform during WWII? They performed jobs in factories like steelworkers and welding
What happened to the women after WWII? They were forced to give up their jobs in the factories to men returning home from war. Most women went back to working in the home.
Name the two "theatres" that troops fought in during WWII? Europe and The Pacific Islands
What was "VE-Day?" It was the day we ended the war is Europe. It stands for Victory in Europe Day (VE Day)

America First Committee Group of isolationists that wanted to keep the US out of WWII
Lend-Lease Act Act authorizing the President to aid any nation whose defense he felt was vital to American security
D-Day Planned invasion of France in order to get it back for the Allies
Liberty Ships Vessels built in the US that usually carried troops or war supplies
War Bonds Government savings notes bought by Americans to help finance the war
Rations Program where the government asked citizens to limit their use of certain "everyday items"
Carpet Bombing Technique used where planes scattered large numbers of bombs over a selected area
Victory Gardens Home projects that raised vegetables during WWII
Island Hopping Offensive strategy of American admirals to beat the Japanese in the Pacific
