TermDefinition
Genre A category of literature, marked by a distinctive style, form, or content Kind of book
Fiction A literary work whose content is produced by the imagination and is not necessarily based on fact. Not real.
Drama A prose or verse composition, telling a serious story that is intended to be acted for theatre, television, radio, or the cinema
Mystery A work of fiction, drama, or film dealing with a puzzling crime
Nonfiction A piece of writing using only facts True
Poetry A piece of literature written in meter; verse. Doesn’t have to rhyme and is written in a short choppy form
Autobiography A person’s life story written by themselves Auto = Self Autobiography = Self written
Biography A person’s life story written by someone else
Noun The name of a person, place thing or idea. dog, table, Sylvia, honesty
Verb A word that shows action or links the subject to the predicate of a sentence. jump, run, have, was
Pronoun A word used as a substitute for a noun I, me, you, us, we, they, them, anyone
Adjective A word that describes a noun or a pronoun The beautiful, young girl was singing.
Adverb A word that describes a verb, an adjective or another adverb. A very happy puppy wiggled excitedly through the door.
Preposition A word used to show the relationship between a noun or a pronoun to some other word in the sentence in, above, over, under, outside, around
Conjunction a word that joins words, phrases and clauses and, yet, because, but, either…or, neither…nor
