| Polynomial | A monomial or sum of monomials |
| Trinomial | The sum of three monomials |
| Binomial | The sum of two monomials |
| Factors | In an algebraic expression, the quantities being multiplied |
| Prime (Polynomial) | A polynomial that cannot be written as a product of two polynomials with integral coefficients |
| Greatest common factor (GCF) | The highest number that divides exactly into two or more numbers |
| Coefficient | The numerical factor of a term |
| Difference of two squares | Two perfect squares separated by a subtraction sign |
| Perfect square | A number with a square root that is a rational number |
| Perfect square trinomial | A trinomial that is the square of a binomial |
| Quadratic equation | an equation in the form of ax^2 + bx + c = 0 |
| Zero-product property | If the product of two factors is zero, then at least one of the factors must be zero |
| Completing the square | To add a constant term to a binomial in the form of x^2 + bx so that the resulting trinomial is a perfect square |
| Quadratic formula | A formula that allows you to find solutions to any quadratic equation |
| Axis of symmetry | The line that goes through the vertex of a parabola and divides the graph into two equal halves |
| Parabola | The u-shaped graph of a quadratic function |
| Quadratic function | An equation that can be expressed as f(x) = ax^2 + bx + c |
| Vertex | The maximum or minimum point on the graph of a parabola |
| Minimum | The lowest point on the graph of a curve |
| Maximum | The highest point on the graph of a curve |
| Double root | The roots of a quadratic function that are the same number |
