Term | Definition |
---|---|
Chord | A segment whose endpoints lie on a circle |
Diameter | A chord that contains the center of a circle |
Secant of a Circle | A line that contains a chord |
Tangent to a Circle | A line that lies in the plane of a circle and that intersects the circle at exactly one point(point of tangency) |
Circle | The set of all points in a plane at a given distance fron a given point in the plane |
Radius | A segment from a point of a circle or a sphere to the center |
Congruent Circles | Circles with the same radius |
Concentric Circles | Circlesthat lie in the same planethat share the same center |
Inscribed Angle | Angle whose vertex lies on a circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle |
Central Angel | Angle whose vertex is the center of a circle and whose sides contain radii of the circle. |
Circumference | Distance around a circle, that is, the perimeter of a circle. |
Arc Length | A fraction of the circumference of a circle defined by the arc. |
Arc of a Circle | Two points on a circle and continuous part of the circle between the two points. |
Semicircle | An arc of circle whose endpoints are the endpoints of a diameter. |
Minor Arc | An arc of a circle whose length is less than the length of a semicircle of the circle |
Major Arc | An arc of a circle whose length is greater than the length of a semicircle of the circle. |
