Chapter 7: Color

| color | an element of art that is derived from reflected light. |
| color spectrum | when light passes through a wedge-shaped glass, called a prism, the beam of white light is bent and separated into bands of color. |
| hue | the name of the spectral color. |
| color wheel | the spectrum bent into a circle. Made up of the primary, secondary and tertiary colors. |
| tint | a light value of a hue. |
| shade | a dark value of a hue. |
| intensity | the brightness or dullness of a hue |
| complementary colors | the colors opposite each other on the color wheel. |
| monochromatic | color scheme that uses only one hue and the values, tints, and shades of that hue. |
| analogous | colors that sit side by side on the color wheel and have a common hue. |
| binder | a liquid that holds together the grains of pigment. |
| solvent | the liquid that controls the thickness or the thinness of the paint. |
