| point | an exact position often marked by a dot |
| line | a straight path of points that goes on forever in both directions; Buzz Lightyear loves lines - "To infinity and beyond!" |
| line segment | a part of a line that has 2 endpoints |
| intersecting lines | lines that cross at one point |
| parallel lines | lines that never cross or intersect |
| ray | part of a line that has 1 endpoint and goes on forever in the other direction |
| angle | a figure formed by 2 rays that have the same endpoint |
| vertex of an angle | the common endpoint of 2 rays that form an angle |
| right angle | an angle that forms a square corner or 90 degrees |
| perpendicular | 2 lines, line segments, or rays that intersect to form right angles |
| acute angle | an angle that measures less than a right angle or 90 degrees |
| obtuse angle | an angle that measures more than a right angle or 90 degrees |
| polygon | a closed plane figure made up of line segments |
| side | a line segment forming part of a polygon |
| vertex of a polygon | the point where 2 sides of a polygon meet |
| diagonal | the line segment other than a side that connects 2 vertices of a polygon |
| triangle | a polygon with 3 sides |
