How are the number of representatives determined for each state? By the population of the state. The more people living in the state, the more representatives from that state.
What are the qualifications for becoming a Representative? 25yrs. old, citizen for 7yrs, and must live in the state which they are chosen
How long of a term do Representatives serve? 2yrs.
What role does the House have in the impeachment process? Brings charges against a gov't. official if they committed a crime against the country
What are the total number of senators in Congress? 100
How is the number of Senators from each state determined? equal representation, 2 from each state
How long is a Senators term? 6yrs.
What are the qualifications needed to run for a senate seat? 30yrs. old, citizen of the US for 9yrs, live in the state which they are chosen
Who serves as president of the Senate? Vice president
Where do ALL money bills start? House of Representatives
If the House approves a bill where does it go next? Senate
What is considered the majority vote in order for a bill to advance onto the next stage? 2/3 vote
If the House and Senate both approve a bill where does it go next? President of the United States
What are the three things a President can do with a bill? Sign the bill; veto; nothing
What happens to the bill when the president signs it? Becomes a law
What happens to a money bill if the president vetoes it? Goes back to the House of Reps where it started for revisions
If both houses of Congress approve of a bill after the President vetoes it what happens to that bill? The bill becomes a law
What happens to a bill if the President does nothing with it within 10 days and Congress is in session? Becomes law
What happens to a bill if the President does nothing with it within 10 days and Congress in not in session? The bill dies
If a bill dies that is called a....... pocket veto
How are the electoral votes determined for each state in a Presidential Election? By the number of Senators and Representatives that state has
What are the qualifications for someone to run for president? at least 35 yrs. old, a natural born citizen, and live in the US for 14yrs.
What is a term for someone who is president? 4yrs.
What is the maximum number of terms for a President? Two 4yr. term (total of 8yrs.)
What is the main purpose of the executive branch? To enforce the laws
What is the title of the President when dealing with the military/armed forces? Commander-in-Chief
What is the title of the President when dealing with foreign affairs? Chief of State
What is the title of the President when he makes sure his employees (staff, Cabinet)are doing their job correctly? Chief Executive
What is the title of the President when he passes bills, vetoes bills, etc? Chief Legislator
