| Emergency | a dangerous situation--heart attack, accident, fire, auto crash |
| Enforced | to make people obey a law (Speed Limit Enforced) |
| Enter | come in or go in (Do Not Enter) |
| Entrance | a place to go in, a place to enter, a doorway or driveway |
| Except | to not include something (No Stopping Except in Emergency) |
| Excluded | not allowed to enter (Commercial Vehicles Excluded) |
| Exit | a place to go out |
| Expressway | a highway where cars can travel fast; usually in a large city (Pima Expressway) |
| Facing | looking at you (Walk on Left Facing Traffic) |
| Fallen Rock | rock that has fallen to the ground (Watch for Fallen Rock) |
| Feet | 12 inches--how may feet to something coming ahead (Road Closed 1000 Feet) |
| Flashing | lights going on and off very quickly (Prepare to Stop When Flashing) |
| Grade | how steep something is (hill) (Very Steep Grade) |
| Gravel | rock and sand together (Gravel Road Ahead) |
| Highway | a road where cars travel fast (Highway 53, Highway 29) |
| Hitchhiking | to travel by asking for a ride (No Hitchhiking on Highway) |
| Hospital | a place for sick people (usually a blue sign with a white letter H) |
| Increase | go higher, go faster (Increase Speed) |
| Intersection | the place where two roads cross |
| Interstate | running through and connecting different states (Interstate 94) |
| Junction | many roads coming together |
| Lane | one portion of the road where a car can drive (2-Lane Traffic, 4-Lane Traffic) |
| Law | a rule that people must obey (traffic laws--Rules of the Road) |
| Limit | the greatest or smallest amount, (Speed Limit 45, Weight Limit 2 Tons, Minimum Speed 30) |
| Local | a particular place (Local Traffic Only) |
| Lodging | a place to stay overnight (hotel or motel)indicatied by a blue sign |
| Loose | not firmly in place (Loose Gravel) |
