Basic Geometry Terms

Point An exact location on a plane, named with a capital letter.
Line A straight path that extends without end in opposite directions.
Plane A flat surface that has no thickness and extend forever.
Ray Part of a line that has 1 endpoint and extends forever in 1 direction.
Line Segment Part of a line or ray that extends from 1 endpoint to another.

Complementary Angles Two angles whose measures add to 90°.
Supplementary Angles Two angles whose measures add to 180°.
Acute Angle The measure of the angle is greater than 0° and less than 90°.
Right Angle The measure of the angle is 90°.
Obtuse Angle The measure of the angle is greater than 90° and less than 180°.
Straight Angle The measure of the angle is 180°.
Parallel Lines Lines in a plane that never meet.
Perpendicular Lines Lines that intersect at 90° angles.
Transveral A line that intersects 2 or more lines that lie on the same plane.
Adjacent Angles Angles with a common vertex and a common side, but no common interior points.
Vertical Angles Opposite (nonadjacent) angles formed by two intersecting lines.
