| acrostic | -literary compositions in which the writer has used the letters of the Hebrew alphabet as the initial letters for a sequence of verses |
| repetition | -repeated words, phrases, or ideas within a psalm to create a theme |
| stanza / strophe | -the poetic equivalent of the paragraph -can be recognized by features of form as well as content |
| refrain | -like a chorus; a line, or set of lines, repeated at least twice that divides the poem into smaller sections |
| inclusion / envelope | -repeating similar words at the beginning and end of a poem or section |
| chiasm | -a series of nesting inclusions that build toward a central point |
| parallelism | -the use of components in a sentence that are grammatically the same; or similar in their construction, sound, meaning or meter |
