worddefinition
allegory a representatio of an abstract or spiritual meaning through concrete or material forms.
alliteration the repitition of initial consanant sounds.
allusion a reference to a well-known person, place, event, literary work, or work of an act.
analogy make a comparison between two or more things that are similar in some ways but otherwise unalike.
anecdote a brief story about an interesting, amusing, or strange story.
argument an oral disagreement; verbal opposition; contention; altercation.
climax the high point of interest or suspense.
colloquialism of ordinary or familiar conversation.
complex sentence a sentence containing one or more dependent clauses in addition to the main clause.
compound sentence a sentence containing two or more independent clauses, usually joined by one or more conjunctions.
concrete details a detail you get directly from a source.
connotation the set ideas associated with it in addition to its explicit meaning.
denotation a words dictionary meaning, independent of other associations that the word may have.
dialogue conversation between characters.
diction style of speaking or writing as dependent upon choice of words.
