Fallacy a wrong belief : a false or mistaken idea
Non Sequitur a statement that is not connected in a logical or clear way to anything said before it: My child's school is big so the classroom must be big
Connotation an idea or quality that a word makes you think about in addition to its meaning
Denotation the meaning of a word or phrase
Misleading Quotations taking words out of other peoples mouths and changing what they said
Ad Hominem appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect
Red Herring something unimportant that is used to stop people from noticing or thinking about something important
Straw Man a weak or imaginary argument or opponent that is set up to be easily defeated
Generalization a general statement : a statement about a group of people or things that is based on only a few people or things in that group
Stereotype to believe unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic are the same
Post Hoc relating to or being the fallacy of arguing from temporal sequence to a causal relation
Slippery Slope a process or series of events that is hard to stop or control once it has begun and that usually leads to worse or more difficult things
