TermDefinition
Fallacy A deceptive, misleading, or false notion, or misleading argument.
False Dichotomy Statement using the words either-or.
Non Sequitur Does not follow premises. Statement containing an illogical conclusion
Connotation An idea or quality that a word makes you think about in addition to its meaning
Denotation The meaning of a word or phrase
Misleading Quotations Taking words out of other people's mouths and changing what they said.
Ad Hominem An attack on a person's character rather than his or her opionions or arguments
Red Herring This is a diversionary tactic that avoids the key issues. Avoids opposing arguments rather than addressing them.
Straw Man This move oversimplifies an opponent's viewpoint and then attacks that hollow argument
