Fiction test for Intro to Lit

TermDefinition
Character the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual
Symbol a thing that represents or stands for something else
Theme The meaning of a work as a whole
Omniscient knowing everything
Protagonist the leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text.
antagonist the opposing force
Conflict the problem in the story
flat characters A character with no major emotions or characteristics, they are just sort of there
dynamic characters A character who changes as the story goes on.
Universal Symbols Symbols like roses, colors, seasons,

Historical Setting When in history, pinpoint on a timeline
Irony When something other than the expected happens
Plot the main events of a play, novel, movie, or similar work, devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence.
Physical Setting The physical surroundings i.e. a house, a forest, a yard, a beach, etc.
