What beliefs did the Catholic Church re-affirm at the Council of Trent? The bible and church traditions were equally important. Salvation is achieved through faith and good works. Indulgence are valid as long as they aren't sold. The church's interpretation of the bible was final.
What was the "Renaissance" a rebirth of? Art and Literature
Humanists tended to focus on what key areas? Human potential and achievements
Why was Leonardo da Vinci considered the ultimate Renaissance man? He was an artist, sculptor, inventor, visionary
What were indulgences? Cards sold by the Catholic Church that pardoned someone for a sin they committed
What English King took control of the church when the pope refuses to grant him a divorce? Henry VIII
What were John Calvin's ideas? Everybody is a born sinner, you cant earn salvations, predestination
Why was the printing press such an important invention? It created more books, books became cheaper, more people could afford books and have them in their home, people learned to read, and people started to question the church now that they could read.
What were Martin Luther's key beliefs? Everyone was equal in faith, the bible is the sole truth on religion, salvation is achieved by faith alone
Why did Henry VIII want a divorce from his first wife? He wanted to marry a younger woman so he could have a son.
