| code of conduct | statement guiding the ethical behaviors of a company and its employees |
| checking account | bank account which payments can be ordered by a depositor |
| endorsement | signature or stamp on the back of a check that transfers ownership of the check |
| blank endorsement | endorsement consisting only of the owner's signature; indicates that the subsequent owner is whoever has the check |
| special endorsement | endorsement indicating a new owner of the check (also--endorsement in full); includes words as "pay to the order of" and the name of the new check owner |
| restrictive endorsement | endorsement restricting further transfer of check; limits use of check to whatever the endorsement was specified |
| postdated check | check with a future date |
| bank statement | report of deposits, withdrawals, and bank balances sent to the depositor by a bank |
| dishonored check | check that a bank refuses to pay |
| electronic funds transfer (EFT) | computerized cash payments system--transfers funds with no need for checks, currency, or other paper documents |
| debit card | bank card; automatically deducts the amount of a purchase from the cardholder's checking account |
| petty cash | amount of cash on hand used for small payments |
| petty cash slip | form proving a petty cash payment |
