Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Indigenous Describes people or things that are native to a region.
interloper Trading company attempting business in an area where another company had a monolopy.
extraneous irrelevant
inherent stuck to the nature of thing
germane relevant or suitable or closely connected
pariah refers to a social outcast, someone not accepted in his or her society.
endemic native or common to or peculiar to a specific region or abstract area.
intrinsic rough synonym for "inherent"
ostracize expelling a person from a community either literally or figuratively.
tangential describing something "slightly touching" or barely connected"
Ominous a foreshadowing of the future, always describes the threatening, the menacing.
portentous Describes something carrying a sign, a portent, of the threats of the future.
inauspicious forecasts negatively.
imminent Describes something about to occur
impending it can refer to something threatening or not.
minatory always mean "threatening"
presage This verb refers to a forewarning, an ominous feeling, a prediction.
bode and forebode verb referring to an omen and the two syllable repeats or intensifies that presentiment.
propitiate describes actions to appease or calm forces that might oppose a favorable outcome.
harbinger noun refers to a forerunner, an early warning or messenger of what's to come.
