| Monomial | A number, a variable, or the product of a number and one or more variables with nonnegative exponents. |
| Constant | A monomial that is a real number. |
| Zero exponent | A nonzero number raised to the zero power. |
| Negative exponent | Any nonzero number raised to a negative power. |
| Polynomial | A monomial or the sum of monomials. |
| Binomial | A sum of two monomials. |
| Trinomial | A sum of three monomials. |
| Degree of a monomial | The sum of the exponents of all its variables. |
| Degree of a polynomial | The greatest degree of any term in the polynomial. |
| Leading coefficient | The coefficient of the first term. |
| Standard form of a polynomial | A polynomial whose terms are in order from greatest to least degree. |
| Factor | Quantities being multiplied. |
| Matching factors | Factors that can be multiplied together to get the original number. |
| Prime | A number that is only divisible by itself and 1. |
| Quadratic expression | An expression in one variable with a degree of 2. |
| Foil method | A method to multiply two binomials by finding the sum of the products of the first terms, the outer terms, the inner terms, and the last terms. |
