What is crude oil? Crude oil is formed by partially decayed plants and animals under mud from millions of years ago
What is crude oil a mixture of? Hydrocarbons (hydrogen + carbon) which can be seperated
Name the method which is used to separate crude oil Fractional Distillation
Where do molecules with lower boiling points condense at? the top of the fractional column
What is fractional distillation? When you start with a mixture, boil it in a chamber of heat and then separate the mixture into fractions
What is carbon monoxide and what does it do? Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas and it stops our red blood cells from carrying enough oxygen around our bodies
What is the equation for incomplete combustion? methane + oxygen --> carbon dioxide + water
When sulphur is burnt what does it react with? OXYGEN
What is a disadvantage of crude oil? pollution and renewable oils
