Alkanes Hydrocarbons containing only single bonds between Carbon Atoms
Alkenes Hydrocarbons conatining double bonds between double bonds between carbon atoms
Alkynes Hydrocarbons containing triple bonds between carbon atoms
Alkyl Group An alkane minus one hydrogen atom. Name the alkyl by replacing -ane with -yl
Amide A class of organic compounds in which the hydroxyl group of a carboxylic acid is replaced by a nitrogen group
Amine A class of organic compounds that contains a nitrogen atom boded to one or more carbon atoms
Aromatic A compound that contains benzene. A benzene ring has only one hydrogen attached to each carbon.
Carbonyl Group A group of atoms that contains a double bond between a carbon atom and oxygen atom. (C=O)
Carboxylic Acid A class of organic compounds that contains the carboxyl functional group
