Rising Action Build up of suspense between main conflict if the story and climax
Climax The solution of the main conflict
Falling Action The wrap up of lose ends
Resolution The story is brought to a close
Narrator Voice that relates the details of the story to the reader, teller of the story
Denotation The dictionary definition of a word
Connotation The idea and feelings associated with a word
Context Clues Hints or suggestions that surround unfamiliar word or phrases and clarity their meaning
Irony Contrast between what's stated or meant, between what is expected to happen, and what actually happened.
Allusion A reference to a famous person, place,event, or work of literature
Stereotype A broad generalization or over simplified view that disregards individual differences
Nonfiction Any prose selection that tells something actually happened, presents factual information
Essay Short work of nonfiction, single subject, formal or informal
Thesis One statement containing main idea or purpose of an essay
Biography The story of a persons life that is written by someone else
Autobiography Nonfiction in which a person tells the story if his or her own life
Protagonist Main character that faces a conflict
Antagonist Someone or something that is against protagonist, it poses the conflict for the protagonist
Science Fiction Imaginative writing that has a scientific basis
