dehoratio Dissuasion; a speech/text made to dissuade
solecism A deviation or error in speech, manners, or deeds
satire The general term for a work that uses ridicule, humor, and wit to criticize and provoke change in human nature and institutions
crescendo A gradual increase in intensity, force, or volume
bulwark A defensive wall or embankment
malaise Vague bodily or emotional discomfort or uneasiness
innuendo An indirect intimation about a person or thing, especially of a disparaging or a derogatory nature
canard A deliberately misleading story
allegory A narrative technique in which characters representing things or abstract ideas are used to convey a message or teach a lesson. It is typically used to teach moral, ethical, or religious lessons but is sometimes used for satiric or political purposes
demotic Relating to ordinary people
Horatian Satire Text that ridicules gently
cortege A group of attendants; a retinue
refutation Disproof; the act of proving wrong by argument or evidence
impresario An entertainment producer or manager
bathos Insincere pathos; sentimentality; mawkishness
