| Origin Myth | a fictional tale that explains the actions of gods or heros or the causes of a natural phenomena; They specifically deal with the creation of the world |
| Legend | A traditional story usually dealing with a particular person- a hero, saint, or a national leader, often legends reflect a people's cultural values |
| Journal | A daily autobiographical account of events and person reactions. |
| Sermon | A broadly defined as a speech given from a pulpit in a house of worship; live its written counterpart, the essay, a sermon conveys to an audience the speakers message of point of view |
| Lyric Poetry | speaker expressing the observation or feelings. brief. musical devices |
| Apostrophe | form of personification |
| Conciet | an elaborate comparison between two very different subjects |
| Figurative Language | writing with no literal or basic meaning |
| Metaphor | a direct comparison not using "like" or "as" |
