Unit 4 Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Elimination | The use of addition or subtraction to eliminate one variable and solve a system of equations |
| Open half-plane | The solution of a linear inequality that EXCLUDES the boundary line |
| Solution | The coordinate pair that is true for both equations |
| Substitution method | Algebraic method for finding the solution to a system of equations |
| Independent | If a consistent system has exactly one solution |
| Dependent | If a consistent system has infinitely many solutions; the graph only has one line |
| Inconsistent | If a system has no solution, the graphs are parallel |
| Consistent | The system has at least one solution; the graphs intersect at one point or are the same line |
| System of linear inequatities | Set of two or more inequalities with the same variables |
| Half-plane | The region of the graph of an inequality on one side on a boundary |
| Closed half-plane | The solution of a linear inequality that INCLUDES the boundary line |
| System of equations | Two or more equations |
| Boundary | A line or curve that separates a graph into regions |
