Geometry Word Word Meaning
Acute angle An angle whose measure is between 0º and 90º.
Acute triangle A triangle whose angles are all acute angles.
Angle Two rays that have the same endpoint.
Degree (º) A unit of measure for angles and temperature.
Isosceles triangle A triangle with at least two congruent sides.
Line A straight path of points that goes on forever in two directions.
Line segment Part of a line having two endpoints.
Obtuse angle An angle whose measure is between 90º and 180º.
Obtuse triangle A triangle in which one angle is an obtuse angle.
Octagon A polygon with 8 sides.
Parallel lines In a plane lines that never cross and stay the same distance apart.
Pentagon A polygon with 5 sides.
Parallelogram A quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel.
Perpendicular lines Two lines that intersect to from square corners or right angles.
Plane An endless flat surface.
Point An exact location in space.
Polygon A closed plane figure made up of line segments.
Protractor An instrument used to measure and draw angles.
Quadrilateral A polygon with 4 sides.
Ray Part of line a that has one endpoint and extends forever in one direction.
Vertex(a) THe common endpoint of two rays in an angle.
Vertex(b) The point at which three or more edges meet in a solid figure.
Vertex(c) The point of a cone.
Straight angle An angle measuring 180º.
Equilateral triangle A triangle whose sides all have the same length.
Hexagon A polygon with 6 sides.
Generalization A general statement. Ex: A generalization about rectangles applies to all rectangles.
Right angle An angle whose measure is 90º.
Intersecting lines Lines that pass through the same point.
Regular polygon A polygon that has sides of equal length and angles of equal measure.
Right triangle A triangle in which one angle is right angle.
Scalene triangle A triangle in which no sides have the same length.
Triangle A polygon with 3 sides.
Rectangle A parallelogram with four right angles.
Rhombus A parallelogram with all sides the same length.
Trapezoid A quadrilateral that has exactly one pair of paralegal lines.
Square A rectangle with all sides the same length.
Cube A solid figure with six flat surfaces called faces. All the faces are squares.
Solid figure A figure that has three dimensions and takes up space.
Edge A line segment where two faces meet in a solid figure.
Face A flat surface of a polyhedron.
Prism A solid figure with two congruent parallel bases and faces that are parallelograms.
